PAK vs AUS: Piyush Chawla, Simon Doull Hail Nathan Lyon's "Massive Achievement" Of 500 Test Wickets

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull lavished rich praise on Australian spinner Nathan Lyon for achieving 500 Test wickets. Doull touted Nathan Lyon as a great of the modern day and highlighted how even in seam-friendly conditions the off-spinner manages to take wickets.

Nathan Lyon became the 8th bowler in the history of Test cricket to take 500 Test wickets. The off-spinner became the fourth spinner to achieve the feat and joined the elite list of greats in Anil Kumble, Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.

Nathan Lyon achieved the feat during the first game of the ongoing Test series against Pakistan. The match took place at the Optus Stadium in Perth and the off-spinner achieved the feat during the second innings of the match and helped his team win the game.

Nathan Lyon reached the golden number ‘500’ when he trapped Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf in lbw. He, however, had his heart in his mouth because the left-hander opted for the DRS. But to his fortunes, the tracker showed three reds and he achieved the feat.

Nathan Lyon became only the third Australian bowler after Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath to achieve the feat. He reached the milestone in his 123rd game and made many stand and applaud him for his heroics.

Simon Doull was in awe of Nathan Lyon achieving the massive feat. Doull hailed him as an outstanding bowler and said that he’s great for Australian cricket. Speaking on Star Sports, he explained:

“Nathan Lyon’s performance against Pakistan, picking up his 500th Test wicket, he’s absolutely outstanding. He’s a genuine gun, a great of the modern game, the 4th spinner only to pick 500 Test wickets. I’m sure Ashwin is not far, for the Indian fans. Lyon has been brilliant, absolutely superb over the number of years.

“He has bowled in Australia a lot. Half of his Test matches have been there on the surface which don’t genuinely turn except SCG. His performances in India haven’t been the best over his career, which probably has been one disappointing thing for Nathan Lyon. But to me, he’s a great of Australian cricket. “

Former Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla, who was also part of the discussion on Star Sports, also hailed Nathan Lyon for the achievement. Chawla highlighted his journey from being a groundsman to one of the best spinners. The Indian expert congratulated him for his milestone and stated:

“With the background that he came, from being a groundsman to taking 500 wickets in Tests that too in Australia, where fast bowlers play a major role, is a massive achievement. Big congratulations to him for achieving the massive feat.”

Nathan Lyon hasn’t played a white-ball for more than 4 years. He has been prioritizing Test cricket and is still going strong. With the way he’s going, it’s fair to say that he can achieve some more milestones. He will be next seen in action during the Boxing Day match against Pakistan on 26th December in Melbourne.
