Former India fast-bowler S Sreesanth has hit back at Mickey Arthur over his comments after the clash between India and Pakistan last week in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
While the match between the arch-rivals is done and dusted, it is still a major talking point in the cricket fraternity. One of the reasons behind it is Pakistan’s displeasure over playing in front of a partisan crowd in an ICC event. With the Indian government not issuing visas to Pakistani journalists and citizens due to poor bilateral relations, the Narendra Modi Stadium was packed with Indian fans for the India vs Pakistan clash.
The crowd made its presence felt by giving Pakistan a hostile reception. Throughout the game, the fans did everything they could to make things tougher for the Men in Green. In the end, Team India ended up winning the game by 7 wickets to register their third win in a row in the competition.
After the game ended, Mickey Arthur, who is Pakistan’s technical director, expressed his disappointment, saying: “Look, I’d be lying if I said it did [not affect us]. It didn’t seem like an ICC event, to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like a BCCI event.”
And recently, he stated that Pakistan are looking to take on Team India in the final, saying: “This Indian team is a very, very good cricket team. I think they’re very well led by Rahul (Dravid) and Rohit (Sharma). I think they’ve got all bases covered and I’m looking forward to meeting them again in the final.”
S Sreesanth hits back at Mickey Arthur
Mickey Arthur’s comments about Pakistan playing India in the final of the World Cup have not gone down really well with S Sreesanth. The outspoken former bowler has said that even India’s C team can register a win over Pakistan.
“Mickey Arthur said we’ll meet in the final. I don’t think Pakistan can ever beat India in an ICC trophy or in any other event considering the team they have. Even our C team can beat Pakistan’s main XI. Make an IPL XI of players who are not playing, even they can defeat the Pakistan team,” S Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.
“Pakistan cannot even dream of playing in such a big stadium. We gave them a chance, but if you play like that, you won’t get such chances again,” S Sreesanth added.
Talking about the game, India bowled out Pakistan for 191 before chasing down the total inside 31 overs. India will be in action next on Thursday (October 19) when they take on Bangladesh in Pune. On the other hand, Pakistan will play against Australia on Friday.
