Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram is one of the legends of his time and has dismissed many big names of world cricket with his swing and pace. Akram also known as the ‘sultan of swing’, who is a part of the commentary team for the AUS vs PAK Test series, opened up on one hilarious experience that he faced at the ‘Melbourne Cricket Ground’.

The ‘Bay 13’ is one of the most chaotic and happening areas of the world’s second-largest cricket stadium, MCG, and the crowd is often seen cheering their team and the spectators also sledge the opposition players.

While Pakistan were chasing down 317 in the fourth innings, Wasim Akram shared the most hilarious incident of his life. On Day 4, while explaining the incident, Wasim revealed that it was early days in Australia for him and he was not used to the Australian accent.

Wasim Akram had completed his fifer on the 1989 tour of Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. As soon as Wasim reached the milestone, the ‘Bay 13’ crowd started to chant, “Wasim is a W@@@@R”.

While Wasim Akram was not able to say the word in the commentary box, his fellow commentator asked him does it rhymes with ‘Banker’, to which he responded ‘Yes’.

However, earlier Wasim Akram was not able to understand what the crowd was saying and thought that they were praising him. However, it was the then-Pakistani captain Imran Khan, who let him understand what the word meant.

Wasim Akram said, “At that time, I couldn’t get hold of the Aussie accent as it was my early days in Australia. So I was very happy and was waving at them. And then Imran came up to me, my captain. He said you know what they are saying. I said yes, they are saying you are a good player. Imran said no, they are saying you are a ‘w****r’”.

Australia has always been a place where fights and sledging on the cricket field are very common. Australians try and play various mind games with the opposition team to put them down and win the match.

Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been the biggest victim of sledging in Australia but he has also given it back to the crowd and the players with the same passion. This is a reason, why any Australian player thinks twice before messing with Virat Kohli.

Getting back to the AUS vs PAK 2nd Test, the Australian team was able to register a 79-run win against Pakistan as it was skipper Pat Cummins’ ten-wicket haul, which played a major role in Australia’s win.

Pat Cummins picked up fifers in both the innings and it was once again a flop batting display from Pakistan which resulted in yet another loss for them. Pakistan is yet to win a Test in Australia since 1995 and the streak is 16-0.

The Australian team will want to end the Test series on a winning note and whitewash Pakistan 3-0 whereas Pakistan would still search for their maiden Test win in Australia after 1995.
