The 29-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team express pacer Haris Rauf won the Player of the Match award for his breathtaking show with the ball in the first match of the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023 against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday, September 6.

Rauf once again looked dangerous with the ball and he started off his spell by dismissing opener Mohammad Naim for 20 in the 8th over. He returned to bowl in the 10th over of the innings and on the very first ball he knocked over Towhid Hridoy.

He later removed the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim and tailenders Taskin Ahmed in the 38th over to complete his 4-wicket haul. The express pacer finished with the bowling figures of 6-0-19-4.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Haris Rauf said that they plan as a bowling unit ahead of every game. He also expressed his desire to win the Player of the Series award in the Asia Cup 2023. Haris Rauf said:

“It was hot out there, but I’ve played a lot of cricket here. I play PSL for Lahore, the crowd always expects us to perform here. Before any game, we do plan as a bowling unit. We talk about bowling to different plans based on the game phase.”

“Hard length was tough to play here, and the plan was to keep bowling stump to stump. Didn’t need to go to the yorker today. I keep working hard and I have high goals for myself, I want to be the Player of the Series in this Asia Cup, let’s see how the tournament proceeds,” Haris Rauf said.

During the mid-innings break, Haris Rauf said that their goal as a bowling unit is to back each other. He said:

“The goal is always to back each other as a bowling unit and make things easier. Lahore is a wicket where you need to bowl quick, and bowl at the stumps, that’s the only way to get wickets.”

The 29-year-old added that Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah start very well with the new ball, which gives him confidence. He elaborated:

“(On the pace trio) they start really well with the new ball, and that gives me confidence, and it gives me an idea of what the wicket will do. We keep discussing things and bowl to our plans. I think the way our batters have been performing, we should be able to chase this down.”
