Babar Azam has departed early in the first game of the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan are currently taking on Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With the ball, the hosts had a great outing as they bundled out the opposition for just 193 runs, thanks to brilliant bowling by Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.

Pakistan openers were tested with the new ball bowling under lights and Fakhar Zaman perished early. It was expected that skipper Babar Azam would take his team home and play another blinder of an innings for his team as he did against Nepal.

Babar Azam looked settled with the bat and played some crips shots but he was unlucky as the ball stayed low. Taskin Ahmed bowled a length ball that skidded on. The batter got an under edge and the ball sneaked under his bat to hit the stumps. Here’s the video:

Babar Azam scored 17 runs off 22 balls including 1 four. His wicket left Pakistan tottering at 74/2. But after his wicket, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan have batted spectacularly well and have taken his team close to the target.

PAK vs BAN: Babar Azam surpassed the massive record of Virat Kohli

After his 17-run knock against Bangladesh, Babar Azam became the fastest to achieve 2000 runs as a captain in the ODI format. The Pakistan captain achieved the feat in the 31 innings. He surpassed the former India captain Virat Kohli in this feat.

Virat Kohli achieved the feat in 36 innings during his stint as skipper. Former South African captain AB de Villiers is also on the list as he attained the feat in 41 innings. Going ahead into the Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar Azam will be extremely crucial for his team. A lot of hope would be relying on him as Pakistan’s chances will depend on him.
