Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Team after the loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He stated that it was a tragic loss for the team as they found a way to lose the game from the winning position yet again.

Pakistan’s torrid run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 continued as they faced a poor loss to India. The match between the two arch-rivals took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday (9th June).

Pakistan looked like favorites to win the game because they were in control for the majority of the time. They bundled out the India team for just 119 runs and with the way their pacers bowled, they had momentum in their kitty and were looking clear favorites to win.

They started pretty well in the chase as well. Pakistan lost skipper Babar Azam (13) early but Mohammad Rizwan kept the team in the hunt. They were cruising and were 56/1 at one stage. At that time, it was almost certain that they would win the game because of the way they were going.

But Jasprit Bumrah tilted the game in his team’s favor. The fast bowler removed Mohammad Rizwan with the peach and after that Hardik Pandya supported him well as India changed the entire complexion of the game, restricting them to 113 to win the game by 6 runs.

Salman Butt pointed out that it was a simple game for Pakistan to win as they had wickets in hand. He while calling the loss ‘tragic’ stated that they created the excitement only to lose the game. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

"Another tragic loss. If we talk about the Pakistan Cricket Team, then I have to say it was a tragic loss, unfortunately. Pakistan have once again found a way out of nowhere to lose a game. It was a simple game, they had wickets in hand but we found a way to create excitement and then lose it.”

The Indian team held their nerves, there was no panic at all - Salman Butt

Salman Butt further lavished rich praise for the Indian team, saying that the Rohit Sharma-led side held their nerves and didn’t panic at all. He also claimed that India didn’t bat well as they could’ve managed 150 runs. He added:

"The Indian team held their nerves, there was no panic at all and seemed relaxed. Indian batters lost their wickets and Pakistan also bowled well. India could have reached the 150-run mark since the wicket in New York was not that bad.”

Pakistan have now faced two back-to-back losses in their two games in the T20 World Cup 2024. Their chances to qualify for the Super 8 stage now look very bleak. It won’t be a surprise if they face an early exit from the tournament as they have just two games left now.
