PAK vs CAN: Kamran Akmal gets down on his knees and issues a public apology to Harbhajan Singh for his racist remark vs Arshdeep Singh

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has issued a public apology to Harbhajan Singh for his comments on Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

This comes just 2 days after the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma defeated Babar Azam's Pakistan in their second Group A match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Arshdeep Singh, who was targeted by Kamran Akmal while commentating on a local sports channel, was the one to bowl the final over of the match.

With 18 required off the last 6 balls, Arshdeep Singh bowled decently and helped the Indian team beat Pakistan by a margin of 5 runs. Thanks to the victory, the Men in Blue increased their winning lead over the Green Army in ICC T20 World Cup editions. India has now won 7 out of the 8 matches they have played against their bitter rivals in the competition.

What did Kamran Akmal say to Arshdeep Singh?

While commentating in the India-Pakistan match 2 days ago, Kamran Akmal passed on some derogatory comments to Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer was given the onus to defend the last 18 runs by skipper Rohit Sharma. Before Arshdeep pulled off the famous heist, Akmal had made a comment that spread like wildfire.

With 12 runs needed for Pakistan's victory, Kamran Akmal said that Arshdeep Singh might not be able to help India win the match. Akmral claimed that Arshdeep was not looking in a good rhythm and he was also seen laughing while making those remarks.

"Anything can happen. The last over will be bowled by Arshdeep Singh; he hasn't looked in a great rhythm. And It is already 12." - Kamran Akmal said via ARY News.

Akmal's comments upset Harbhajan Singh

Kamran Akmal's comments did not land well with Harbhajan Singh, who is also a part of the Hindi commentary team of Star Sports. Bhajji took to X (formerly Twitter) and re-posted the same video on which Akmal can be seen indirectly insulting Arshdeep Singh. The former off-spinner then wrote an emotional message to the former Pakistani wicketkeeper.

Kamran Akmal apologizes to Harbhajan

After coming across Harbhajan Singh's tweet, Kamran Akmal took to his X handle and issued an apology to the former for his remarks. Akmal wrote that he is regretful about his remarks and that he is directing his apology to the whole Sikh community. He admitted that his comments were inappropriate but he never tried or wanted to hurt anyone's feelings.

"I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to @harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry. #Respect #Apology." - Akmal wrote.
