Wasim Akram, one of the greatest bowlers of all time the game has ever seen, is witnessing the decline of the Pakistan National Cricket Team that he once built and had dominance in world cricket. He expressed frustration at Pakistan’s devastating performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan's repeated losses are damaging its reputation in world cricket, and it is further worsened by poor team selections and internal politics within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The Men in Green recently suffered a shocking defeat against the USA, and they also failed to chase a 120-run target against India despite being in a favorable position in New York on Sunday.

Wasim Akram urges PCB to take bold steps amid Pakistan's poor performance in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Akram, frustrated with the current situation of the Men in Blue, has called for significant changes post-T20 World Cup 2024. He urged the PCB to overhaul the team, focusing on building a new squad regardless of instant results with them.

The former Pakistan captain took to the microblogging platform X to express his frustration in a video in which he called for drastic changes within the national team. Akram urged PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to implement bold reforms, calling for the inclusion of six to seven new players in the team and supporting them through losses to develop a strong team.

Criticizing the Pakistan team's lackluster performance, Akram said that it was easy to chase down 120 runs on the New York pitch against India, but they made a blunder. The legendary cricketer has yet again raised the issue of captain Babar Azam and star pacer Shaheen Afridi are not in talking terms.

Wasim Akram said in a video posted on his X handle: “Enough is enough. We need changes now. Bring in a new team – six to seven players and then back them through losses so that they can develop as a team. It's time for the PCB chairman to take a bold step. We keep hearing [of the team] that this guy isn't talking to that guy, or that guy isn't talking to him. This was the best New York pitch so far; it wasn't that difficult. How tough was it to chase 120?”

The legendary fast bowler further expressed his utter disappointment in Pakistan's performance so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, especially against India in New York.

Pakistan doesn't deserve to go into the Super 8s: Wasim Akram

Akram lamented the team's inability to adapt and questioned whether they needed to be spoon-fed instructions. Akram said that he feels embarrassed as a Pakistani and said that Pakistan doesn’t deserve to be in the Super-8.

He added, “After this performance, I don't think Pakistan deserve to go into the Super 8s. Pakistan team doesn't need enemies. They themselves are enough. Should we spoon-feed them everything? Should we need to tell them what the situation is? Will Babar Azam do it, or the coach do it? For the last 8-10 years these players are playing. Should I tell Mohammad Rizwan that their main bowler Jasprit Bumrah has come back to pick up a wicket, so take a single?”

Akram further noted that Pakistani batters hardly hit a boundary after 10 overs, and they even didn't try to go for big shots against India. The former captain said that he was feeling really down after Pakistan’s loss to India and stressed that he is a positive person, but he couldn’t handle such defeats. He added, “This may be a bitter pill to swallow, but it is what it is.”

He signed off by saying, “Now I've started feeling embarrassed. As a Pakistani, I want to back Pakistan team but. But there is a limit to everything. It was a very sad day for Pakistan cricket, unfortunately. I can't even speak right now. Obviously, you'll be frustrated.”
