The opening game of the three-match series between England and Pakistan saw an astonishing show of Test Cricket, with the visitors defeating Pakistan by a score of 74 runs on the dramatic final day of the historic Test Match.

Over the course of the five days, the pitch for the game received harsh criticism since there was nothing in it for the bowlers to catch. However, both teams’ batters did write history as a result of the flat surface.

Pakistan vs England Game Breaks 53 Years Old Record

A total of 1,768 runs were scored by England and Pakistan collectively throughout the course of the five-day Test Match, shattering the previous record for the most runs ever scored in a five-day Test Match.

The previous record was set in a 1969 encounter between Australia and West Indies at Adelaide Oval, where both teams combined to score 1764 runs.

Up a barren Rawalpindi track, the England batsman put on a record-breaking performance in the opening innings. The Three Lions scored 657/10 in the innings, which was a record for England in the game’s longest format.

In fact, England scored more than 500 runs on Day 1 of a Test Match, becoming the first side to do it with four different batsmen reaching centuries. Harry Brook led all scorers with 153 points, and Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope all reached double figures.

Imam Ul Haq, Abdullah Shafique, and captain Babar Azam all scored hundreds for Pakistan in their first innings, which saw them add 579/10 in response.
