England take on Pakistan in the second T20I in Karachi on September 22. The visitors won the first game comprehensively by six wickets. The first four games will be played in Karachi while the final three games in Lahore. Both teams play a three-match Test series after the T20Is in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi. The T20I series is a dress-rehearsal for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

England’s victory in the first match was primarily designed by two players Luke Wood and Alex Hales. Wood took three for 24 with the ball on his debut. Hales scored a match-winning 53 off 40 balls o his international return for England. England stand-in skipper Moeen Ali had a special mention for both these players in his post-match presentation comments.

“Wood’s debut was outstanding and was a good all-round performance from the bowling unit. We were smart with the chase, Alex Hales, batting after such a long time, he was nervous but showed why he’s one of the best in the country. Brook showed why he’s rated so highly back home, their partnership was wonderful to watch” said Ali.

Heading into the second T20I, England should ideally keep the same XI. The side will get plenty of opportunities to experiment as the series moves on. Meanwhile, regular skipper Jos Buttler is expected to miss the first five matches due to an injury. He is expected to be back for the final two games.

This is an important series for Hales ahead of the T20 World Cup. He is picked in the T20I side and would like to enter the tournament with some great form. He has another chance to score big.

Malan has been a former number one in this format. He scored 20 in the first T20I. The southpaw will look to take his opportunity. Malan is also a part of England’s T20 World Cup squad.

Harry Brook

Duckett scored 20 off 17 balls in the first T20I. This is a comeback of sorts for the left-hander and he would lie to make this an important series.

The skipper will slot in at six. He was unbeaten on seven in the first T20I as he took his team home. He would want a bit more time in the middle with the bat in the second T20I.

Curran bowled his spell and gave away 30 runs. He wasn’t required with the bat in the first game.

David Willey

Willey was expensive with the ball in the first T20I. He went for 41 runs off his four overs without a wicket. He would want a better outing in the next game.

Wood impressed one and all on his debut game for England. He picked up three for 24. The management should give him as many matches as possible in the series.
