Saqlain Mushtaq, the head coach of Pakistan, expressed his dissatisfaction after his team’s humbling series loss to England at home. Mushtaq acknowledged that Pakistan must learn from its failures and advocated looking to England as an example.

During the third Test on Tuesday in Karachi, England completed a 3-0 series sweep, handing Pakistan their worst-ever Test series loss. When England concluded the third day with 112-2 and needed 55 more runs to win the match, the Men in Green fell apart, going from 164-3 to 216 all out. Within the first hour of the next day, they finished the remaining runs.

Speaking to Geo News after the eight-wicket loss, Saqlain Mushtaq stated that Pakistan has a lot of work to do and that England’s improvement did not happen overnight.

“Certain aspects are highlighted in the longer format that is normally swept under the rug in the shorter format, but in the longer format, you have to be technically and tactically great, and we need to improve in these areas. It will not happen overnight, but we must work hard.”

“England did not adopt this policy overnight; they went through a thought process before deploying this technique, but there were times in this series when we forced them to return to the usual Test cricket style” Saqlain Mushtaq Added.

“We were looking to win the games”: Saqlain Mushtaq

Pakistan had a chance to win the first two Test matches, but Saqlain Mushtaq claimed they needed the experience.

“There were occasions at Rawalpindi and Multan when we wanted to win the games, but it didn’t work out that way. We were in a strong position in the Multan Test as well. But Saud Shakeel’s contentious choice was what made the difference; had he not done so, we would have been in a strong position” Saqlain Mushtaq said.

“In a longer game format, experience is key, and it helps you at a crucial stage; this favored England in the series. We have to learn from our mistakes.”

Pakistan will attempt to ignite a comeback against New Zealand in a three-Test series beginning on December 26th.
