Babar Azam along with the other nine captains attended the World Cup Captains Day event on Wednesday (October 4), a day before the start of the main competition. The captains interacted with the media and answered questions regarding leadership, the World Cup, their respective teams, and many more.

Apart from cricket, Babar Azam was also asked about the famous Hyderabadi Biriyani by none other than Ravi Shastri. Hyderabadi Biriyani has been the talk of the town ever since the Pakistan team landed in Hyderabad last week. Several Pakistan players including their vice-captain Shadab Khan have praised the famous dish. In fact, Shadab even joked that Hyderabadi Biriyani was responsible for his team’s poor fielding performance during the warm-up matches.

Coming back to the event, Ravi Shastri asked Babar Azam about the Biriyani and the Pakistani skipper came up with a humorous reply, saying: “Sau baari baata chuke hain. Kaafi achi rahi. (have answered it 100 times. It was very good).”

Babar Azam on playing in India:

During the Captains Day event, Babar Azam also shared his experience of playing in India. There were apprehensions in the Pakistani team about a hostile reception in India. However, the players have been received very warmly by the fans so far. Sharing his experience, Babar Azam said:

“I think the hospitality was nice – we were not expecting this, but I think the way people are responding towards our team, everyone enjoyed it. We are a week in Hyderabad so it is not like we are in India, it is like we are home. I think it’s a golden opportunity for everyone to give their 100 percent and enjoy the tournament.”

Meanwhile, reigning champions England and New Zealand will lock horns against each other in the World Cup opener on Thursday (October 5) in Ahmedabad. On the other hand, Pakistan will play their first game on October 6 against the Netherlands in Hyderabad.
