Pakistan Beat Netherlands By 81 Runs
Pakistan hammered Netherlands by 81 runs to start their campaign on a high and the most valuable player for the Men In Green in the match was batter Saud Shakeel, who also won the Player of the Match award.
He came to bat when Pakistan looked down and out at 38/3 and joined forces with wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan to lead Pakistan to recovery. The duo looked solid out in the middle and they took the Dutch bowlers to the cleaners. Saud played the role of the aggressor and allowed Rizwan to play his natural game.
Overall, he scored a brilliant 68 runs off 52 balls, with 9 fours and 1 six, and was involved in a 120-run stand with Mohammad Rizwan. Speaking after the match, Saud Shakeel said that he tried to be positive during his innings. He also thanked the Hyderabad crowd for the support and his coach for improvements in his game. Saud Shakeel said:
“Tried to be positive and score runs for the team. Nerves were there, we lost 3 wickets but I was fortunate enough to get early boundaries. We knew the pressure would go back to them if we got a start.
“I think the last 2-3 months I’ve been playing hard, I knew I’d bat number 5 for Pakistan and have been developing my shots according to that – sweeps and reverse sweeps. Thanks to the crowd as well, and I want to thank my coach as well for helping me out.”
