PAK vs NZ: Babar Azam Achieves Massive Milestone With His Century In The Second T20I Against New Zealand, Surpassing Rohit Sharma

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam smashed a stunning century against New Zealand in the second T20I of the five-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, April 15. Babar Azam guided Pakistan to beat New Zealand by 38 runs, registering their second consecutive win in the white-ball series at home.

Pakistan scored 192 runs for the loss of four wickets after opting to bat first. Babar Azam smashed an unbeaten century of 101 runs off 58 balls with the help of 11 fours and 3 sixes. Babar gave the team a good start by adding a 99-run partnership for the first wicket. Rizwan scored 50 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by Matt Henry.

Pakistan lost four wickets in quick succession, but Babar rebuilt the innings with Iftikhar Ahmed by adding an 87-run partnership. The 28-year-old reached his third T20I hundred in the final ball of the innings with a boundary off Jimmy Neesham’s bowling. Azam hit 16 runs off the last five balls, including two fours and a six.

Babar Azam achieved a huge milestone in T20 cricket with his brilliant century. The right-handed batsman broke the record for most centuries as a captain in the shortest format of the game, surpassing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s tally. Overall, he has equaled the record for most T20I centuries with Glenn Maxwell, Colin Munro, and Suryakumar Yadav, while Rohit Sharma leads the list with four hundreds.

Babar Azam scored his 9th century in T20 cricket; only West Indies legend Chris Gayle scored more hundreds than him in this format. The Pakistan opener’s six centuries came while leading the team, second only to Australian batsman Michael Klinger, who hit seven. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis are next on the list; Kohli scored five centuries as captain.

We Utilized The Last Five Overs – Babar Azam

Babar Azam was named Player of the Match for his brilliant batting. He said that he was pleased with his performance in the match.

“I am very happy with my performance in this match. There was a bit of help for the fast bowlers early on but Rizwan and myself saw that period through, built a partnership and then Iftikhar and myself finished it off. We utilized the last five overs and got to a very good total,” Babar Azam said.
