The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to announce ace batter Babar Azam as the skipper for all three formats amid speculation over his sacking from the captaincy. The board is expected to name Babar Azam as an all-format skipper until the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year.
Earlier this month, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee Najam Sethi made an announcement that Babar Azam would be captain of the Men in Green only for the limited-overs series against New Zealand at home. Babar guided the team to victory in the first two T20I matches before losing the third match to the Black Caps.

Najam Sethi confirmed in his recent interviews that Babar Azam will lead Pakistan across formats as long as the team keeps winning matches. The final decision will be taken after consulting with Pakistan’s newly appointed team director Mickey Arthur.
“As long as Babar is a successful batsman and a successful captain, he will remain captain. If you continue to lose series, people will start questioning your captaincy and other qualities,” Najam Sethi said.
Mickey Arthur recently arrived in Pakistan and was named the Pakistan team director in a press conference on Thursday. According to sources, Arthur made the choice to continue with Babar, stating that he has the potential to lead the team in the right direction. Sethi agreed with Arthur’s recommendation to retain Babar as captain.

According to reports, Babar leading Pakistan till the 2023 World Cup was among the important points discussed during the meeting. The report added that Arthur told Sethi that the current Pakistan team has the potential to win the World Cup but needs better guidance and help from his coaching staff. As a result, the board agreed to retain Babar until the main event.
According to sources, Mickey Arthur has complete authority to make suggestions as a director of the team. An official announcement will be made regarding Babar’s captaincy in all three formats until the World Cup in the coming days. Arthur will not travel with the Pakistan team for the upcoming series and is expected to start working on a permanent basis after the World Cup.
