A mischievous incident occurred during the sixth ball of the sixth over of Pakistan innings during the second NZ vs PAK T20I match being played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Pakistani batsman Fakhar Zaman heaved an incoming length ball by New Zealand pacer Ben Sears towards the leg side. The ball went for a six and landed on the grassy banks of the stadium.

Most of the cricket stadiums of New Zealand are more of an open ground than a stand-based stadium. The place where the ball landed was close to the commercial road and parking lot of the ground. Many times when the ball lands in such areas the people sitting in the crowd return the ball, however, during the incident, a fan ran away with the ball and didn’t return it.

Returning to the match, batting first in Hamilton New Zealand were able to put up a first-innings score of 194/8 in 20 overs. The Kiwi team were given a decent start as openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway added 58 runs for the first wicket. While Conway was dismissed for 20 runs, Allen completed his half-century and played an innings of 74 runs in 41 balls. His innings included seven fours and five sixes.

While wickets kept on falling throughout the innings, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, and Mitchell Santner played short little cameos and helped the team reach a first-innings score of 194/8.

Haris Rauf was the most successful bowler in the Pakistani bowling lineup and picked up three wickets, Abbas Afridi ended the innings with two wickets whereas Aamer Jamal and Usama Mir picked up 1 wicket a piece. Shaheen Shah Afridi remained wicketless.

Chasing down the target, Pakistan got off to a poor start when they lost Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan for a score of just 10 runs. From here Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman took the onus and added 87 runs for the third wicket and tried to bring Pakistan back in the match. Zaman got out after scoring 50 runs from 25 balls whereas Babar stayed at one end. However, the former Pakistani skipper didn’t receive any support from the other end.

Adam Milne broke the backbone of the Pakistani batting lineup and ended the innings with four wickets. Babar Azam was at last dismissed for 66 runs whereas no other batsman was able to cross the 10-run mark. Shaheen Shah Afridi was unbeaten on 22 runs. Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Ben Sears and picked up 2 wickets a piece.

Pakistan were wrapped up for 173 runs and it was yet another loss for Pakistan in the T20I series against New Zealand. The Kiwis lead the series by 2-0 and the next match will be played at the University Oval in Dunedin on January 17.

The Pakistani team’s bowling performance was unimpressive as always whereas other than Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman no batter stood up to the expectations.
