Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali Khan made a huge remark about Babar Azam’s captaincy following the team’s loss to Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the right-hander should step down as a leader and his performance will be better only.
Pakistan’s loss to Afghanistan hasn’t done any good to skipper Babar Azam. The captain has come under scrutiny and there have been lots of talks about his place as a captain of the team. Many have raised the calls to sack his captaincy as well.
There have also been reports that PCB is keen to change him as the captain of the team. The situation of Pakistan is also not great in the ICC World Cup 2023. They have lost three out of their five games in the tournament and their chances to qualify for the semifinals are looking bleak.
Babar Azam also hasn’t set the stage on fire in the tournament as well. Entering the World Cup, he had a good baggage of expectations but he hasn’t lived up to them as he has smashed just two half-centuries in 5 innings, 50 against India and 74 against Afghanistan.
Basit Khan highlighted how leaving the captaincy helped Virat Kohli return to form and urged Babar Azam to do the same. He added that he had said this earlier as well but people misjudged it and called him a traitor. Speaking to ARY News, he explained:
“I told one year ago on my channel that Babar Azam is a very good batter. He should quit captaincy, just like Virat Kohli did. Virat stepped down and looked at his performances. His performance will become better, for sure. But, as we all know, certain people on social media twisted my words, saying I don’t like Babar Azam and I am a traitor.”
PAK vs SA: I heard Babar Azam cried after the defeat against Afghanistan last night – Mohammad Yousuf
Former player Mohammad Yousuf recently made a shocking revelation. He said that skipper Babar Azam cried in the dressing room after the loss against Afghanistan. He raised calls to support the captain and added that the entire nation is with him. He elaborated:
“I heard Babar Azam cried after the defeat against Afghanistan last night. It’s not only Babar’s fault, the entire team and management is involved. We are with Babar Azam in this tough time and the entire nation is with him.”
Pakistan will next be seen in action when they take on South Africa on Friday (27th October). A loss here would also end their chances of qualifying.
