The 27-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team leg-spinner Usama Mir replaced the vice-captain Shadab Khan as a concussion substitute in the 26th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Friday, October 27.

Pakistan were forced to pick a concussion substitute after Shadab suffered a freak injury in the match. The all-rounder injured himself while fielding. On the second legal delivery of South Africa???s innings, Shadab Khan ran from mid-on to stop the ball and fired a throw at the stumps. In the process, he fell on the ground in an awkward position and hit his head and shoulder on the ground.

Shadab couldn???t move after the incident and a stretcher was brought on the ground. However, after a few minutes, he stood up and walked off the field on his own. Later, he returned to the field but was replaced by Usama Mir during the 15th over of South Africa???s innings.

As per the rules, Usama Mir was a like-for-like replacement for Shadab Khan as he is a leg-spinner and he will be allowed to bowl the entire quota of 10 overs.
