PAK vs SL: Danushka Gunathilaka To Face Trial For Sexual Assault In Australia

Sri Lanka player Danushka Gunathilaka will face trial for sexual assault. The trial will take place at Downing Centre District Court in Australia. Danushka Gunathilaka will face a single judge during the trial and is guilty of one count of sexual encounter without consent.

The trial will last for four days. Notably, Danushka Gunathilaka has pleaded not guilty in the matter. The case was registered earlier last year but Gunathilaka flew back to Sri Lanka as he was granted an expedited trial.

The event happened in November last year when Danushka Gunathilaka was in Australia for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He was part of the Sri Lanka squad but did not play any games in the tournament.

Danushka Gunathilaka Met The Women Through Dating App

According to the case, the Sri Lanka all-rounder met the woman on a dating app. The couple chatted for a few days and finally met in Australia. During the meeting, they had drinks. Later, they went to the woman’s house in the eastern suburbs of Australia where the incident happened.

Later, the woman charged Danushka Gunathilaka for sexual assault. Post the charges, Sri Lanka Cricket has also banned him from international games since that time. Gunathilaka has not played any international match since the start of this year.

Danushka Gunathilaka Last Played In October 2022

Gunathilaka is a batting all-rounder who has played 8 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 46 T20Is for Sri Lanka. The 32-year-old accounts for 299 runs and 1 wicket in Tests. In ODIs, the left-handed batsman has scored 1601 runs and picked 8 scalps.

In T20Is, the right-arm off-spinner has hit 741 runs and picked 6 wickets. Gunathilaka last played for Sri Lanka in October 2022 against Namibia.
