'Pakistan asked Rohit Sharma if he could captain and bat for them'

Former Indian player Sadagoppan Ramesh hilariously trolled the Pakistan side for their humiliation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against the defending champions in Colombo. He turned to sarcasm, remarking that they would have thought of approaching former Indian captain Rohit Sharma to come and save them.
Pakistan were crushed by India as the two archrivals clashed in the much-anticipated contest at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Green were outclassed in all departments of the game, as they failed by a 61-run margin, after the Men in Blue posted a target of 175 runs.
With the win against Pakistan, India qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, and an opportunity has been opened for the USA side. However, Pakistan would not be hoping to lose the encounter to Namibia under any circumstances.
"At one point, Pakistan must have even thought of asking Rohit Sharma," Sadagoppan Ramesh pulls in Rohit Sharma into the Pakistan debate
Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has turned to some hilarious trolling of their archrivals, Pakistan. He turned to sarcasm while stating that Pakistan players may have, for once, started to ponder over requesting the former Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, to come down from the stands and save them from the situation.
Rohit Sharma could have captained them through this rough patch while also coming to their rescue with the bat, as per the sarcastic remarks from the former Indian batter.
"At one point, Pakistan must have even thought of asking Rohit Sharma, who was seated there, if he could captain them and bat for them. Bangladesh must be thinking Pakistan acted like supporting them only to escape a beatdown from India. Once India made 175 on that pitch, it was all over for Pakistan," said Ramesh on his Instagram handle.
Another Indian player dismisses the India-Pakistan matches as a possible rivalry
Suryakumar Yadav was the first to discredit Pakistan and did not consider them worthy of calling it a rivalry anymore against India. Suryakumar had then cited the overwhelming record of the Indian side against Pakistan in the Asia Cup T20s.
Speaking of the same, Ramesh too dismissed the rivalry between India and Pakistan, stating that the former looked at their continental opponents as nothing more than a small step in their actual goal of winning the T20 World Cup. India now have an advantage of 8-1 wins over their archrivals.
"India won't even celebrate this win much except for one day, given Pakistan is just a small step in their bigger goal. India's only aim in this tournament is to see if Suryakumar Yadav's side can achieve what Rohit Sharma did in 2024," he added.
"India vs Pakistan or Ishan Kishan vs Pakistan" - Sadagoppan Ramesh
Indian opener Ishan Kishan was picked as the Player of the Match after he offered a stunning hand to the Indian innings with his 40-ball 77-run innings, which laid the foundation of the side for their 175-run total.
"There was talk on Pakistan TV that Pakistan won the match by 37 runs. But come to find out, they took Ishan Kishan's score as India's score. Kishan scored 77, and at one point, many wondered if it was India vs Pakistan or Ishan Kishan vs Pakistan. It wasn't clear if they would even cross his 77," said Ramesh (via the aforementioned source).
He went on to state further that Pakistan would be curious about why India could demolish them every time they meet during ICC events. However, there are not many options, as the broadcasters often want ICC to place them in the same group.
India's priority remains the trophy, and Pakistan is just a team on the way, as suggested by the former Indian opener. "By now, even the Pakistan fans, who keep hyping the side despite always losing to India, will have lost trust," he continued.
