The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated "Operation Clean Up" within the national cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board intended to drop six players from the team after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, some Pakistani players are dissatisfied with recent statements by PCB officials.

The Babar Azam-led team started their World Cup campaign on a disappointing note. The Men in Green lost to the United States of America (USA) in their first match of the ICC tournament. The Pakistan team failed to defend the 159-run target. The team failed to cross the line during the Super Over in the match.

The Pakistan team went on to lose against their archrivals, India, in their next match. Pakistan could not chase down the 120-run target and recorded their second consecutive loss in the tournament. Babar Azam and his teammates received criticism from former cricketers for their lackluster performances in the World Cup.

However, they managed to secure their first victory by defeating Canada in New York on Tuesday, June 11. The Men in Green chased down a 107-run target with seven wickets and 15 balls to spare. The Pakistan cricket team moved to third place in the Group A table with two points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.191.

Six Players Set To Be Dropped From Pakistan Squad After T20 World Cup 2024

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with board officials, associates, and several former cricketers, has initiated preparations for a comprehensive "Operation Clean Up" within the national cricket team. They have unanimously decided to remove players engaged in team politics and not retain underperformers.

According to a CricketPakistan.com report, the PCB is expected to drop a minimum of six players following the conclusion of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign. The report added that a few players have retained their spots despite poor performances due to their good relationship with the captain, Babar Azam.

Concerns have emerged about Babar Azam's captaincy amid criticism of his decision-making in the ongoing ICC tournament. Many top cricketers, including Babar, share the same management agency. Former Chairman Zaka Ashraf attempted to curb agents' influence, which led to his resignation from his role.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Set To Address The Public Soon

The PCB Chairman is expected to hold a press conference soon, but it's unclear how detailed his statements will be. It's reported that he will speak without naming specific players. There's growing factionalism within the PCB, prompting plans to dismantle these groups and anticipate changes in various departments.

Chairman Naqvi intends to collaborate with former cricketers to devise a plan to enhance the Pakistan national cricket team's performance. However, Pakistan players are discontent with recent statements from PCB officials, suggesting that these matters could have been addressed after the ongoing World Cup.
