Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi was injured in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and underwent emergency surgery (appendectomy). Many experts said that if Shaheen wouldn’t be injured then the result of the final could have been different as he has a knack for picking up wickets at crucial junctions.

Earlier, Shaheen had missed Asia Cup 2022 and England T20I Series. In his come-back, the pacer was looking a bit scratchy and then later rediscovered his mojo. The 22-year-old pacer is expected to be the next big thing in world cricket as he has a lot of variations in his armoury.

Shaheen Afridi & PCB on Surgery

On 14th November, Shaheen Afridi was advised of two-week rehabilitation. The speedster took to his social media handle.  “Had an appendectomy today but Alhumdulillah feeling better. Remember me in your prayers,” he said.

Earlier, PCB issued a statement on Shaheen Afridi. “The scan conducted on Monday morning prior to the team’s departure for Pakistan, has confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing.”

“The scans were discussed between PCB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro, and Australian knee specialist, Dr Peter D’Alessandro, and it was reassuring to know that there was no injury. The left-arm fast bowler is feeling better and is in high spirits,”  added PCB.

Shaheen Afridi Invaluable

With England and New Zealand set to tour Pakistan, PCB would be hoping that Shaheen is back. Shaheen Afridi is the X factor for Pakistan as he makes their bowling attack a 3-dimensional one. PCB needs to be careful here as hurrying him to the international arena can worsen his injury.

The skipper Babar Azam would be worried as the team is heavily dependent on Shaheen. Head Coach Saqlain Mushtaq would be well aware of the fact that Pakistan has a solid chance in World Test Championship. Currently, they are placed in 5th position with 51.85 % as they have played 9 Test Matches and won 4 out of them.
