Former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar criticized the Babar Azam-led team's disappointing performance against the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Mudassar Nazar stated that the Men in Green came close to winning the match just because of the nature of the pitch.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan team suffered a narrow six-run loss against India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9. The Pakistan batters struggled to chase the 119-run target and managed only 113 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs in the low-scoring thriller.

The Pakistan cricket team is on the brink of elimination from the ICC tournament. The 2009 champions earlier lost to the United States of America (USA) in their first match in the T20 World Cup. The Pakistan team must win their remaining two matches and hope other match results in Group A will go in their favor.

Better Team Won - Mudassar Nazar

Mudassar Nazar expressed his lack of surprise regarding Pakistan's disappointing performance in the ongoing World Cup. During the show 'Caught Behind,' Mudassar acknowledged that the better team won the match between India and Pakistan.

“The better team won. Pakistan came very close because of the nature of the pitch, says Mudassar Nazar on the show ‘Caught Behind.’

Jasprit Bumrah Was The Difference - Mudassar Nazar

Mudassar Nazar praised India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, stating that he was the difference between the two teams. The former cricketer mentioned that Pakistan was fortunate that Bumrah didn't bowl with the new ball. Nazar noted Rohit Sharma's decision-making with bowling changes during the match.

“Jasprit Bumrah was the difference and Pakistan was lucky that he didn’t bowl with the new ball. Rohit’s captaincy was also excellent, the bowling changes he made were good,” Nazar added.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets for 14 runs in his four overs. Pakistan appeared to chase down the 120-run target, reaching 80-3 after 14 overs. Bumrah changed the game's momentum by dismissing Mohammad Rizwan for 31 runs. He also dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed off the last ball of his terrific spell.

We Should Not Be Surprised - Mudassar Nazar

Mudassar Nazar highlighted the Pakistan cricket team's recent results against teams like New Zealand's C team, Ireland, and England. The 68-year-old suggested that Pakistan's World Cup results shouldn't come as a surprise given their performance.

“If you see the combination of the Pakistan cricket team and the results they have produced against New Zealand’s C team, Ireland and then England, we shouldn’t be surprised,” Nazar stated.

“We were surprised when we lost to the USA. But if you see the way the US has played against Bangladesh, you can get an idea that Pakistan is going to struggle against the US team in the World Cup,” he further added.

The Babar Azam-led team will face the Canada team in their next match at the same venue on Tuesday, June 11. The Pakistan team is in fourth place in Group A without opening their account in the tournament.
