The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced squads for the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup and Women's Asian Games on Sunday, August 16. Fatima Sana has been appointed as the captain for both of the tournaments.
Sana, who led the women's national side in this year's Women's T20 World Cup in England, missed a series against Sri Lanka because of franchise cricket league commitments. After missing out on the bilateral series, the all-rounder is set to return as the leader of the team.
Pakistan is all set to face India
The upcoming Women’s Asia Cup is set to start from 28 August to 13 September at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. A total of 8 teams are slated to take part in the series, with a total of 15 matches. All of the matches will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The Pakistan Women's National Cricket Team will face their arch-rival India in the group stage, as the Women in Green share Group A with China, India, and Thailand. Group B is decorated with Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. The India vs Pakistan match in the Women's Asia Cup will be played on September 5.
In the Asian Games, Pakistan Women's will start their campaign with the match against Thailand. These two teams will face each other in the September 17 fourth Quarter-final. If the Fatima Sana-led team wins against Thailand, then they will face either Sri Lanka or Malaysia for the semi-final on September 20.
PCB tries to protect the main team for both of the touraments
The cricket board secures their top-ranked cricketers for both of the title races. Alongside the skipper Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali Siddiqui, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Saira Jabeen, Eyman Fatima, Eman Naseer, Umm-e-Hani, Tuba Hassan, Nashra Sundhu and Momina Riasat are selected for both ACC Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games.
But there are a few differences in the squads. While Najiha Alvi, Waheeda Akhtar and Sadia Iqbal are picked for the Asia Cup tournament, for the Asian Games, the PCB selectors showed their trust in Aliya Riaz, Tasmia Rubab and Humna Bilal.
For the Asian Games, PCB has named five players in reserve and four players in reserve for the women’s Asia Cup.
Former Men's National Cricket Team fast bowler Wahab Riaz will travel with the team for both tournaments as the head coach and mentor.
