Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has raised serious concerns about the current state of Pakistan’s domestic cricket system and called for major changes.

He believes that first-class cricket must be given the same importance as Test cricket and players should play regularly for their regions, associations, and departments whenever they are available. India vs Pakistan Asian Games 2026: Full match scenarios.

Saeed Ajmal sounds alarm over Pakistan cricket, demands major domestic changes

Saeed Ajmal feels Pakistan’s current domestic system has too much confusion, with some players playing while others skip matches. He also wants the full domestic schedule announced at least a year in advance so players can plan properly.

He highlighted Pakistan's long off-season, saying the six to eight months of free time should be used for fitness and training camps. High-performance center coaches should work with players during this period, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is paying heavily for being useful.

Ajmal also demanded special spin-bowling camps, as Pakistan players continue to struggle against spin despite having many spinners. He believes that the national team is falling behind and needs better player development, fitness, coaching, and domestic planning to improve.

Pakistan 25 years behind India: Saeed Ajmal's brutal reality check

Meanwhile, Saeed Ajmal has made a strong statement about the gap between Pakistan and India in cricket. He feels Pakistan cannot reach India's level in the next 10 or even 25 years if the current system continues.

The former spinner also questioned how Pakistan can compete with India without improving its own cricket structure when it is far ahead of it in several areas. Amid this, VVS Laxman could get Director of Cricket role as BCCI plans big changes.

Saeed Ajmal said on K21 News: “If we continue playing cricket in the same way, competing with India will remain extremely difficult. We cannot expect to reach India's level in the next 10 or even 25 years the way they are playing cricket. We say that we will compete with India. How will we do it? What do we have to compete with India? We have nothing.”

Ajmal's shocking India vs Pakistan match admission

He also pointed towards the huge hype around India-Pakistan matches. Ajmal admitted that Pakistan often enters the big games knowing that the chances of losing against India are very high, and “90 percent of the game” is already lost because of the pressure and expectations.

Ajmal added, “Okay, we will create a hype. This is an India vs Pakistan match. But we also know that India is far ahead of us at the moment. We lose 90% of the game in the hype also. So, what kind of competition is this, in which we already 90% know that we will lose the game? Winning one match can create excitement, but that alone cannot be called real competition.”

Calling for major changes, the former spinner noted, “India is far ahead of us. I regret to say that India is double or triple ahead of us. If we genuinely want to compete with them, we first need to fix our domestic structure, player development, fitness system, and coaching setup.”
