Australia captain Pat Cummins has exposed his plans for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India later this year. The much anticipated five-match Test series between Australia and India promises a high-octane drama for fans across the world over the six weeks.

The hosts Australia cricket team is aiming to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from Team India when the Test series begins on November 22 in Perth. The remaining matches of the upcoming Test series will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Australia to lean heavily on all-rounders in India Test Series

The Indian cricket team is looking for a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia after winning back-to-back series on Australian soil, while the hosts would be certainly desperate to lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in almost one decade in front of the home crowd.

Amidst the buzz for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Pat Cummins is planning to rely more on all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh for their bowling contributions in the upcoming Test series against India at home.

With the recent Test matches being relatively fast, Cummins is expecting that the India Test series might present a different challenge, potentially requiring a greater use of his all-rounders. Green, who began his domestic career primarily as a bowler, has not had the opportunity to bowl extensively in Test cricket recently.

However, Pat Cummins believes that Green can be used as the fifth bowling option alongside Marsh in the upcoming Test series against India. The Australian pacer believes that the inclusion of Green and Marsh as additional bowling options will be crucial for the Kangaroos, especially given the expected demands of the Test series.

Pat Cummins stressed that the presence of the all-rounders not only provides depth to the bowling attack but also offers flexibility in strategy, and it will eventually enhance Australia’s ability to adapt to different conditions and challenges throughout the Test series against Team India.

We'll be drawing on Cam Green and Mitch Marsh a bit more: Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by Reuters: “The last couple of summers have been pretty light, quick test matches. I suspect this summer might be a bit different at times. We'll be drawing on Cam Green and Mitch Marsh a bit more.

Even someone like Cam Green basically started in Shield cricket as a bowler, but hasn't had to bowl heaps in test matches. We're really lucky Nathan Lyon bowls plenty of overs, so you don't necessarily have to have an all-rounder. But it makes a big difference to have that fifth bowling option. We have six.”

Pat Cummins will miss the upcoming white-ball tour of England and Scotland in September to manage his workload ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Speaking on the same, the Aussie said, “The priority at the moment is to smash out some gym work and start reassessing in a few weeks a path forward. I'm just trying to fill up the bucket again after two years of non-stop bowling. come that first test in as good of a position as I have been in for a few years.”
