The ongoing IPL 2025 faces disruptions due to escalating security concerns following India's Operation Sindoor. The upcoming IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on May 8 is under dark clouds.
It is being said that the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) officials are eagerly awaiting a final advisory from the state government about whether the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings can go ahead as planned on Thursday, May 8, in Dharamshala.
PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala under threat after Operation Sindoor
Sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were quoted as saying by the News18 Cricket Next that the PBKS vs DC match remains “on schedule” as of 5 PM on Wednesday. However, the schedule can be changed anytime, which totally depends on the outcome of high-level security meetings being held by state authorities on Wednesday.
BCCI sources told NDTV, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in touch with the Indian government regarding the matter.”
The serious security concerns raised after India’s successful Operation Sindoor targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir. These strikes were revenge for a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians lost their lives.
Dharamsala IPL 2025 clash faces last-minute government call
The city of Dharamsala, located just 60 kilometers from the India-Pakistan border, is now on high alert, as it is considered a war zone. Due to these rising tensions, the PBKS vs Mumbai Indians match originally scheduled for May 11 in Dharamsala has already been reportedly shifted to Mumbai. This match will now be held at either DY Patil Stadium or Brabourne Stadium on May 11.
However, the officials are concerned about hosting a night game under floodlights with over 20,000 spectators, which could become a major security risk amid the worsened India-Pakistan tensions. Adding to the concern is Himachal Pradesh’s 240-kilometer-long sensitive border with China in the Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti regions. These facts will be considered before taking the final call over the PBKS vs DC clash on Thursday.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated, “We are proud of the Indian Army, and the people of Himachal Pradesh stand with the Indian Army and the country for giving a befitting reply to the terrorists who killed innocent people in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.”
