The turmoil in Pakistan cricket regarding the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to players for overseas T20 leagues is showing little sign of resolution. The Pakistan Cricket Board and the players have been at loggerheads over the issue for quite some time now. The reason is that while the players want to play as many T20 leagues as possible, the PCB wants to put a cap on it.
The central contract signed by the players last year, following a prolonged stand-off, contained a clause regarding participation in T20 leagues. According to the contract, the players were allowed to feature in only three T20 leagues during the year, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL). It effectively meant that players were only allowed to play two overseas T20 leagues in a year.
Recently, Mohammad Haris was denied an NOC for the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) even though he had already traveled to Bangladesh for the tournament. He was part of the Chattogram Challengers??? squad. The Pakistan batsman had already played in two overseas T20 tournaments for the July 2023 to July 2024 period, as allowed by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
PCB issues third NOC to Azam Khan and Shadab Khan:
While Haris was denied a third NOC to play in the BPL, the Pakistan Cricket Board has made an exception for Azam Khan and Shadab Khan. The PCB has denied them a third NOC to play in the ongoing ILT20, according to Pakistani journalist Arfa Feroz Zake.
The Pakistan Cricket Board made an exception to maintain good relations with the Emirates Cricket Board. The journalist also stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board is in no mood to issue NOC to the players for the BPL and the move could damage its relationship with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
???Sources say PCB has issued third NOC to Azam Khan and Shadab Khan for ILT20 inorder to maintain good relations with Emirates Cricket Board. On the other hand, PCB is damaging relationship with Bangladesh Cricket Board by not issuing NOC???s to Pakistani players for BPL 2024,??? he wrote on X.
