PCB Present Itself As A Clown After Accepting Inzamam-ul-Haq's Resignation 10 Days Post His Submission
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently accepted Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation from his position as the chairman of both the national and junior men’s team selection committees. Looking forward, PCB will nominate his successor, with a detailed timeline to be released soon.
Inzamam consciously made this decision to step down from his role as the chairman of the selection committee on October 30, in order to pave the way for the board to conduct an unbiased probe into the allegations of conflict of interest. The former Pakistan skipper stated that he would resume his role as the chief selector if not found guilty.
Aiming to scrutinize these allegations thoroughly, PCB has established a dedicated five-member team. This investigation team is commissioned with the responsibility of fact-checking all the intricacies of these allegations about the conflict of interest in the Pakistan team selection procedure.
Inzamam-ul-Haq took the role of chairperson of the national men’s selection committee on 7th August. Following his good performance as the chairperson, he was given the charge of the junior men’s selection committee in the subsequent month.
Inzamam-ul-Haq Is A Shareholder In Talha Rehmani’s Company
Notably, Inzamam was disappointed with the allegations made against him for a conflict of interest involving him and some senior national team players. Inzamam-ul-Haq picked the 15-member squad led by Babar Azam for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. It was his second stint as the chief selector, the first being between 2016 and 2019.
Reports suggest that Inzamam is a shareholder in ‘Yazo International Limited’, a company which is owned by Talha Rehmani who works as an agent for many national players. This association has raised a lot of eyebrows, given that Rehmani represents some of the big names in the senior team, including skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Pakistan is currently battling for a semi-final spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They have to beat England in their last league match and if New Zealand beats Sri Lanka then they have to keep the NRR in mind as New Zealand currently has a better NRR than Pakistan. It will be a difficult challenge for Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals but the team has enough talent to pull this off. However, will the luck be on their side?
