Pakistan women’s cricket is slowly building towards a big breakthrough, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) planning to introduce its own franchise-based T20 league for women. The top cricket-playing nations like India, England, and Australia already have their own franchise leagues, and they are running them successfully.

And now the PCB is all set to follow the same formula. However, the board wants to make sure everything is properly planned, and everyone involved is fully aligned before announcing the women’s league. The idea of a women’s franchise T20 league is actively being discussed, but nothing has been finalized yet.

PCB close to launching women’s T20 league with long-term vision

PCB women's wing head Rafia Haider was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “It (franchise-based T20 tournament for women cricketers) is under discussion but not finalized as yet. Of course, it (the tournament) is going to be a huge move whenever it happens, so we'll take everyone on board and do our homework properly before its fruition.”

The board is focusing on detailed planning, strong groundwork, and full coordination so that when the league finally begins, it delivers long-term impact rather than short-term excitement. At the same time, the PCB is already making strong efforts to grow women’s cricket at every level.

Haider further explained, “We are taking different initiatives to develop women's cricket in Pakistan. Recently, we have dedicated the High-Performance Centre in Karachi for our women's cricket, where they attend their camps and train round the year. The Women's U19 team was given separate team management and that HPC facility, where they prepared for the Bangladesh tour, and we have seen good results right away. Separate team managements have been given to the national team and U19/emerging teams for focused player development.”

PCB turns to grassroots to build the future of Pakistan women’s cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board is now aiming even lower on the ladder by planning structured school cricket for girls. The wing head further added, “Now we are eyeing having school cricket for girls. It will help us develop a vaster pipeline for women's cricket, which we feel is essential to develop the growth of women's cricket in the country.”

Pakistan women’s cricket is moving forward with a clear focus on fixing its biggest challenge, taking the game to the grassroots level. Their aim is to make sure young girls get the chance to learn cricket early and have a clear path to reach the top. However, reaching the grassroots is not easy, but the PCB is ready to take it on.

They are planning to introduce cricket in schools and to organize Under-15 tournaments in the future to bring more girls into the system and help spot talent at a young age. The PCB believes that if Under-19 players are guided properly, they can become strong national team players.

Changing mindset boosts women’s cricket in Pakistan

The biggest task is to close the gap between age-group cricket and the senior level. To bridge this gap, domestic tournaments for under-19 teams and senior and emerging sides have already been made regular in Pakistan. The next focus is on Under-15 and Under-23 tournaments.

Additionally, the board is providing everything needed to help the game grow, and women’s cricket is now seen as an important part of the overall structure. Over the past two years, steady progress has been made under the current management.

In another big change, more parents are now encouraging their daughters to learn the game, showing that the mindset around women’s cricket is changing. This shift is giving fresh hope for a stronger and more secure future for women’s cricket in Pakistan.
