Former India football captain Sunil Chhetri has opened up about Virat Kohli's nature off the field. On the cricket field, the former India skipper comes across as a man nobody would like to mess with.

He never shies away from giving it back to the opposition, whether with the bat or his words. Time and again, one has seen Virat Kohli unsettling the opposition with his batting exploits as well as verbal volleys. However, he is a different man altogether once he steps outside the cricket field, according to the Indian football great and his good friend Sunil Chhetri.

In a recent podcast, the former footballer was asked about Virat Kohli. In reply, Chhetri said that while Kohli looks aggressive on the cricket field, he is a very funny guy when he is not busy playing cricket. Chhetri revealed that he and Kohli frequently share funny memes with each other before revealing that the batting superstar is also a very understanding person.

"Virat sends funny memes, I send back as well - that is majority chat, few times we talk about life - best thing is that, when I tell something, he says 'I understand' - I genuinely like him, he is a nice guy and many people don't get to know that part. He is amazingly funny, he will crack you up - we have similar dreams, I have so much love and respect for him and his family" Chhetri said on Raj Shamani YT.

Virat Kohli stars in T20 World Cup 2024:

Virat Kohli recently starred for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Before the final, the former India skipper had faced severe criticism for failing to do well with the bat. In 7 games, he had managed to score only 75 runs.

There were calls from several quarters to drop him from the playing eleven as well. However, the team management showed faith in the veteran batsman and he repaid the faith in the final. India were in a precarious situation, reeling at 34 for 3 inside 5 overs before Kohli bailed them out with a super 76-run knock under pressure.

Thanks to his knock, India went on to post 176/7 and won the game by 7 runs. Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock. After the final, the batting stalwart also announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game.
