Phil Salt opened up about yesterday’s loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Salt stated that he was disappointed with the loss, but he wouldn’t mind losing in the league stage rather than in the playoffs.
RCB have already qualified for the playoffs, but the loss against Hyderabad hurt their chances to finish in the top 2 spots.
Phil Salt’s positives from the loss against SRH
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt found out some positives from the loss against Hyderabad. Salt is glad that the loss came in the league stage, not in the playoffs.
There are many ways to look at the loss, but he is glad that this game came early in the tournament, not at the business end of the IPL.
"I mean that's one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is, you don't mind having this game not in the playoffs. You can take it as a disappointment or you can take it for what it is. We've qualified but we've lost the game."
"No one likes to lose games of cricket. I'm hating the fact that we lost, as will everybody else in an RCB shirt, but we'd rather have this now than in an Eliminator," said Salt after the loss against SRH as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Phil Salt also credited his team that they were chasing a mammoth total, and RCB was in the chase till 15 overs. Players in the dressing room were believed to be chasing the target, but in the last four overs, RCB lost seven wickets and lost the match by 42 runs.
Phil Salt will play carefree in the playoffs
RCB have already qualified for the playoffs, and the goal of the players is clear, to lift the IPL trophy.
Phil Salt stated that RCB is now just focusing on a single game only and not thinking about where they finish in the league stage.
Salt missed a few games due to a fever, but now he is healthy and wants to contribute to the team’s success. RCB's opener scored a blistering knock of 62 runs in just 32 balls and gave a flier start to the RCB again.
The English batter thinks that the carefree manner will give positive results to RCB in the knockout games and has promised to play carefree against Lucknow Super Giants in the final league stage match.
Is RCB out of the top 2 contention?
RCB's loss against SRH dented the chances of RCB finishing the league stage in the top 2 spots. But they are still in contention to finish the league stage in the top 2 positions. Currently, they are in third place with 17 points in 13 matches.
RCB will have to finish the league stage on a solid note by winning the game against LSG. RCB wants Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings to lose their last match, and if RCB wins their last match, then they will guarantee a finish in the top 2 spots.
