The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly fined every player from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad PKR 5 million each. The PCB took this harsh step after Pakistan crashed out in the Super Eight stage. It was the fourth straight time they failed to reach the semifinals of an ICC event.
Reports claimed that the fines are for the poor performance of the Pakistan players. The decision came right after Pakistan’s heavy 61-run loss to India in the group stage. That defeat shocked fans and angered PCB officials. This left the former pacer Mohammad Amir angry on the live TV show.
Mohammad Amir fires back at Mohsin Naqvi and PCB
Mohammad Amir has openly attacked PCB’s move. He questioned why only players should suffer. He said that if performance is the issue, then the Pakistan selectors and top officials must also take responsibility. He made it clear that players should not become easy targets.

Speaking on Geo News’ Harna Mana Hai show, Mohammad Amir said, "If fines are the solution, then apply them to everyone, from selectors to administration. Players weren't forced at gunpoint. If wrong combinations were picked, hold those selectors accountable. Stop making players the scapegoat; this isn't a real solution. Why do players have to suffer all the time?”
Fines aren't the solution: Mohammad Amir
The former Pakistani pacer has stressed that the fines will not fix Pakistan cricket. He believes the real solution is to improve domestic cricket and build strong bench strength. Amir has noted that dropping underperforming players hurts more than cutting their money.
Amir further noted, “Fines aren't the solution. I've been saying from day one, invest in domestic cricket. Don't fine players; drop them and tell them to perform consistently for two years. The biggest punishment for a player is being dropped from the team.”
Shahid Afridi slams PCB fines, calls move small-minded
Meanwhile, the former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has also criticized the decision to fine the Pakistan players. He called it a small-minded step and said such action does not make real sense. The legendary all-rounder said that taking money from players will not solve the bigger problem.

Afridi believes that the focus should be on performance, not penalties. He stressed that players who failed to deliver should return to domestic cricket and prove themselves again. Afridi stressed that dropping players and making changes in the squad is a bigger and better punishment than fines.
Afridi said on Samaa TV, “This is an incomprehensible decision; it’s small-minded—they are thinking small. What will they do with PKR 50 lakhs? In my opinion, this isn’t a real penalty.”

Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2026 journey
Notably, the Men in Green got knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Super 8 stage on February 28. Pakistan won their final match against Sri Lanka by 5 runs, but that victory was not enough. They needed to control the target better and keep Sri Lanka to 147 or below to move ahead of New Zealand.
Sri Lanka raced to 207, and that ended Pakistan’s semifinal qualification hopes. In the group stage, Pakistan won three matches and lost one. They defeated Netherlands, USA, and Namibia but suffered a heavy 61-run loss against India.
