"Players Skipping National Duty For T20 Leagues Will Be A Huge Issue" - Brad Hogg

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg believes that the emergence of the T20 leagues around the world will force players’ hands and make them choose the leagues over playing for the national team.

Taking the example of Babar Azam, Hogg said that the youngsters will feel demoralized if they don’t see the Pakistan skipper playing for the national team but instead ends up being in a T20 league.

“This (players skipping national duty for T20 leagues) will be a huge issue in the development of cricket in these regions. Young kids want to see their heroes and if they are not playing for their national team, that’s going to drop off into grassroots cricket.”

“We won’t see the development of young players coming through. Just imagine if Babar Azam was playing T20 tournaments all around the world and not playing for Pakistan,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

Hogg said certain boards like the BCCI and CA will keep their players happy with the salaries but countries that cannot pay big bucks to their players will end up losing them to the franchise tournaments around the globe.

The debate surfaced following the addition of two new T20 leagues introduced by the CSA and the ECB (Emirates Cricket Board).
