England white-ball captain Jos Buttler opened up about his poor ICC World Cup 2023 campaign. He said that one bad tournament won’t define him as a player. He added that he continues to enjoy the game and relishes the challenges ahead.

England skipper Jos Buttler had a bizarre campaign in the ICC World Cup 2023. He failed both as a batter as well as the skipper. The defending champions couldn’t get going at all as they failed drastically and were eliminated early from the tournament.

Jos Buttler as a batter couldn’t get going at all as he failed in almost every game. The keeper-batter managed just 138 runs in the 9 games England played. His poor form was one of the main reasons why the defending champions had a torrid run in the tournament.

Jos Buttler said that it was a huge disappointment for him but it won’t define his career. He also talked about the team’s performance and said that he’s motivated to perform the best. He said (as quoted by Daily Mail):

“I certainly don’t feel like that World Cup is the defining moment for me. It’s a huge disappointment, but it doesn’t define me as a person or my whole career. So, just use it as something to make sure I look forward now and enjoy the challenges ahead.

“We’ve had one bad tournament. You see the depth of talent of guys coming through and you want to help shape that period. That’s something I feel responsibility and motivation for and individually I am always incredibly motivated to perform the best I can and reach my potential.”

I have had great success in the middle order – Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler Buttler further added that he backs himself and his approach has been his main strength. He highlighted the success he has had while playing the same brand of cricket. He added:

‘Any time that you get challenged or get pushed back, it certainly lights a few fires inside. I should have done something different. You’ve got to trust yourself. That’s what you play the game for, you’re out there to make a call.’

I’m certainly not going to be someone who always at the end of the game says: I should have done something different. You’ve got to trust yourself. That’s what you play the game for, you’re out there to make a call.’

‘I have played nearly 180 ODIs and I have had great success in the middle order. It’s been my super-strength in this format of the game and I want to nail down on that even more.”

Jos Buttler will be next seen in action when they will take on West Indies in a three-match ODI series, starting tomorrow.
