Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha is reportedly contemplating leaving the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council. The BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled to take place on September 25 in Goa and a number of key decisions could be taken during the meeting.

One of the most significant decisions could be related to the IPL Governing Council. According to Cricbuzz, the IPL Governing Council could be altered while a new Governing Council for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is likely to be formed too.

The report further stated that Pragyan Ojha is contemplating stepping down from his position in the IPL GC. The former spinner has been serving as a players’ representative in the council. While he has been serving in the council for the last three years, he was elected to the body last year by the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA). He has the option to extend his contract but the 37-year-old is unlikely to do so, according to the report.

Pragyan Ojha retired from all forms of the game in 2020. He represented India in all three formats of the game although he could not enjoy a long stint in the national team. He brought down curtains on his career after representing India in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and six T20Is.

Pragyan Ojha to vacate his position:

The report further stated that one of the agendas in the meeting would be, the “Induction of 1 (one) representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association in the Governing Council of the IPL”. With Pragyan Ojha likely to vacate his position, a fresh election by the ICA would be required to nominate a new representative to the Governing Council.

In addition, the BCCI is also likely to establish a Governing Council for the Women’s IPL. The tournament was launched last year and received good support from the fans. Another agenda of the meeting is the appointment of the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer. The report also stated that there could be discussions on the men’s selection committee. The selection committee could undergo reconstitution by December.
