Indian head coach Rahul Dravid lauded batter Shreyas Iyer ahead of the team’s clash against the Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the right-hander brings temperament along with him and he always thrives under pressure.

Shreyas Iyer has done a decent job for the team in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. He has played vital hands for the team and has put them in a winning position. He was under scanner for his failures against short balls but he made up for it staggeringly well.

Shreyas Iyer slammed a sensational half-century against Pakistan but after that fell for low scores and became the soft target. He was criticized a lot but he replied to his criticism in style as he slammed two blistering half-centuries in the last matches the team played.

Shreyas Iyer has scored 294 runs for the 8 innings that he has scored and is the third-highest leading run-getter for India in the ICC World Cup 2023. Going into the semi-final and final, he will be extremely crucial for the team as a lot would be dependent on him in the middle order.

Rahul Dravid admitted that Shreyas Iyer has some areas to improve but everyone needs to judge him by the amount of runs he has scored. The Indian head coach highlighted how he impressed him during his India A days. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“He brings temperament. Right from the time I saw him in India A his temperament stood out. Pressure brings out the best in him… Of course, a batsman will have areas to improve. But you got to judge him by the runs.”

“Look at his Test innings and critical knocks… especially against Bangladesh, under pressure. Who stands up? Shreyas and Ashwin. Such guys always stand up.”

India is having a dream run in the ICC World Cup 2023. They have won 8 out of their 8 games in the tournament and would be looking to make it 9 on the trot. They will be next seen in action when they take on the Netherlands on 12th November in Bengaluru.
