The Suryakumar Yadav-Gautam Gambhir era for Team India has started on a positive note. The Men in Blue won the recently concluded three-match T20I series 3-0 against Sri Lanka.

The series was India's first assignment since Suryakumar Yadav replaced Rohit Sharma as India's T20I captain and Gautam Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as the head coach. India won the first game against Sri Lanka by 43 runs before winning the second one by 7 wickets (DLS method) to clinch the series with a match remaining.

On Tuesday (July 30), India beat the hosts in a thrilling third T20I to complete a clean sweep. India had their back against the wall for most of the game but they still managed to win in the end. Asked to bat first, the reigning T20I world champions were reeling at 48 for 5 before useful contributions from the likes of Shubman Gill (39), Riyan Parag (26), and Washington Sunday (25) helped them post a challenging total of 137/7.

In reply, Sri Lanka started well with their openers adding 58 runs for the first wicket. At the end of the 18th over, they were on 129/4, needing only 9 runs from the last 12 balls. The win looked like a mere formality at that stage. However, Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant captaincy helped India restrict Sri Lanka to 137 for 8.

With the scores tied after 40 overs of action, the result of the game was decided by the Super Over. In the Super Over, Sri Lanka could score only 2/2 and India won the game on the very first ball.

Suryakumar Yadav delighted with team effort:

Speaking at the end of the third game, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his delight over the way the team performed in the series. The India captain revealed that new coach Gautam Gambhir had asked the players to prioritize team over personal milestones and the players have followed the advice.

He pointed out that Rishabh Pant prioritized hitting a boundary in the 19th instead of taking a single to complete his fifty during the first game when he was out for 49. Even in the second game, he and others such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Hardik Pandya decided to continue batting aggressively even though the target could have been achieved by playing cautiously,

"Gauti Bhai said that we have complete freedom from his side. He told us to back our skills. In the moment, the two people on the ground should make the call about what is best for the team and always prioritize the team over personal milestones," said Suryakumar Yadav.

"That's why you might have seen in the first game when Rishabh was on 49, he could have easily taken a single, but he didn't. At that time, the team needed a boundary, and he went for that shot.

"Then in the second game, Hardik, Jaiswal, or I could have easily finished the match with plenty of time left, but we set the template we wanted to set. And we are taking what we needed from this series," he added.
