The news of Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya testing positive could affect the departure of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav to England. Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 hours before the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. As a result, BCCI had to postpone the fixture to Wednesday. Hence, the travel plans of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav could also be affected.
Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been confirmed as injury replacements to join the Test squad in England. The Indian team, preparing for the five-match Test series against England, have injured players in Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar, with all of them returning home.
Washington Sundar, like Avesh Khan, sustained a finger injury while playing for the County Select XI against India in the practice game in Durham. Both of them played for the County Select XI as ECB requested reinforcements. Opener Shubman Gill had first returned home as the strain on his left leg forced him to miss the series. The youngster had already been in doubt and did not play the warm-up game against the County Select XI.
BCCI hopes travel of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav goes smoothly:
A BCCI spokesperson underlined they will receive the COVID-19 tests of the rest of the contingent probably later in the day. They hope that everyone else returns negative, causing it not to impact the departure schedules of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav. Nevertheless, with the 10-day isolation period mandatory in England, Indians have to the negative report and need to undergo further tests in England. Hence, even if Shaw and Yadav return negative, they have to undergo a short quarantine in Sri Lanka before leaving for England.
“We have to wait for the Covid test results that may come later in the day. Hopefully, everyone will come out negative and the rest of the T20I series and the departure of Suryakumar and Shaw too can be met as per the schedule,” the source claimed.
