Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has heaped praises on Prithvi Shaw, the dynamic Indian opener. Prithvi Shaw has been in terrific form in the ongoing white-ball series against Sri Lanka, playing breezily at the top order in the ODI series. Aakash Chopra observed that when the youngster hits the ball, it races away to the fence.

Prithvi Shaw scored two quick-fire 40s in the ODI series, earning the man of the match in the first game for mustering 43 off 24 deliveries. The right-handed batsman got India off to a blazing start as they chased 263 with 80 balls and seven wickets to spare. Shaw cracked another whirlwind knock, but he fell one short of his maiden half-century in the format.

Aakash Chopra took a liking to Prithvi Shaw, calling him a phenomenal player and that he has been in terrific form. The 43-year old loves the way the youngster plays, going hard at the ball, causing the ball to race to the boundary. Chopra stated that as long as Shaw stays in the crease, batting feels easy and he feels like applauding his strokes.

“I like Prithvi Shaw; he is a phenomenal player. He played two good knocks in the first and third ODI. He has been in swashbuckling form, and that’s the only way he knows to bat – going hard at the bowling. The beauty of Prithvi Shaw’s batting is that when he hits the ball, it mostly races through the gaps in the field. As long as he is at the crease, batting seems like a breeze. You feel like applauding his strokes; Prithvi Shaw is that kind of a player,” Chopra told in his Youtube channel.

But Aakash Chopra observed that Prithvi Shaw would be upset as he could not accumulate a half-century in any game. The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that despite the lack of pressure in the third ODI and plenty of time to make a significant score, Shaw could not do it.

“But Prithvi Shaw will be upset with one aspect of his game. He got good starts in two of the three matches. In the first match, India were not chasing a big total, and Prithvi Shaw had enough time to play a long innings. In the third ODI, India batted first, and he again had time on his hands to build a big score. There was no pressure as such both times, yet Prithvi Shaw fell before crossing the half-century mark,” he added.
