Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has officially informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he wants to move on and play for another state team as a ‘professional’ cricketer. Prithvi Shaw has reportedly requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Shaw’s relationship with the Mumbai team and MCA has been strained over the past year. He was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad in 2023 due to poor fitness. Reports revealed that Shaw had body fat of around 35%, and MCA trainers had put him on a strict two-week fitness plan.

However, despite the efforts, Shaw’s fitness and form didn’t improve. As a result, the Mumbai selectors also left him out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in December 2024. Now, with opportunities drying up in Mumbai, Shaw has chosen to look for a fresh start elsewhere.

Shaw is reportedly in talks with two to three state teams already to join them for the upcoming domestic cricket. An MCA source confirmed that the batter has sought the NOC to represent another state in the next season, and the decision on the same will be taken soon.

A source in the Mumbai Cricket Association was quoted as saying by The Indian Express, “He has sought NoC from us, and we will take a decision on it soon.”

Heartbroken Prithvi Shaw speaks out after Mumbai snub

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw had even responded to MCA with an emotional message that caught everyone's attention after being left out of the Mumbai team. The 25-year-old, who also went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, took to social media to express his disappointment and confusion over being sidelined.

He questioned what more he needed to do to prove himself, sharing his impressive List A stats—3399 runs in 65 innings at an average of 55.7 and a strong strike rate of 126. Despite his frustration, Shaw made it clear that he’s not giving up. He ended his post with a hopeful message, saying he still has faith and will make a comeback.

Shaw hasn’t played List A cricket in India since the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy, but he has played for Northamptonshire in England’s One Day Cup, where he scored 97 and 72. Before that, during his last stint with Mumbai two years ago, he had decent scores like 54 and 51 in domestic circuit.

We can’t babysit anyone: Shreyas Iyer on Prithvi Shaw

After Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win last year, even captain Shreyas Iyer was not happy with Shaw. Iyer had stated, “We can’t babysit anyone, right? He has played so much cricket. Everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to figure out things for himself. And he has also done it in the past. It’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus. He has to sit back and put a thinking cap on. He will get the answer by himself. No one can force him to do anything.”
