Karachi Kings, on Wednesday (December 13), announced the appointment of Shan Masood as their captain ahead of the next season of the Pakistan Super League. The Karachi-based outfit recently traded the Pakistan star from Multan Sultans.
Karachi Kings parted ways with spinner Faisal Akram as part of the deal to secure the Pakistan Test captain’s services ahead of PSL 2024. As part of the deal, they also gave up their first-round draught picks in the diamond and silver round categories. Before signing up Shan Masood, Karachi had traded their captain and last season’s Player of the Tournament, Imad Wasim, for Islamabad United’s Hasan Ali.
With Imad Wasim now gone, Shan Masood has been given the responsibility to lead Karachi Kings in 2024. Shan Masood is not new to leading a team in the PSL. In 2020, he led Multan Sultans and was a part of their squad in 2021 when they won the PSL. In the last edition of the PSL, he scored 236 runs in 9 matches with the help of two half-centuries.

Overall, Shan Masood has scored 1318 runs in 43 PSL matches so far. The southpaw has also hit nine half-centuries in the competition. Karachi Kings will be hoping that their fortunes change with the change in captaincy. They have not won the PSL since winning their first title in 2020.
They also failed to make it to the playoffs in the last two seasons of the competition. Earlier this month, they roped in former West Indies and Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons as their head coach. Simmons has replaced Johan Botha.
Shan Masood eyes success as Test captain:
Shan Masood is currently in Australia where he is gearing up for his very first Test series as a captain. He was appointed as Pakistan’s Test captain last month after Babar Azam’s resignation. Masood will have his task cut out in Australia as Pakistan are eyeing their first Test win in the country this century.
On their last five visits to Australia, Pakistan were whitewashed in Tests and will be desperate to do well in the three-match series. The first Test of the series is scheduled to be played on Thursday (December 14) in Perth.
