PSL breaks away from PCB in a major structural overhaul

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to be established as a separate company in order to improve its management and operations. As reported by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the decision during a recent PSL Governing Council meeting held in Lahore.

The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, board officials, team owners, and stakeholders discussed the future of the Pakistan Super League during the meeting. During the meeting, the PCB boss confirmed that the PSL will be “established as a separate company, fulfilling a long-standing demand.”

It was also announced that an exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will be held in Peshawar on April 8, giving local fans a chance to witness their favorite players in action. The stakeholders are also considering hosting PSL matches in Peshawar in the future, with security clearance and other logistical preparations expected to be finalized by the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board will hire an external company for assessment to ensure transparency before renewing franchise agreements. This company will assess the current franchises and determine the potential value of two new teams that could be introduced in the league soon.

The PSL Governing Council meeting was headed by the PCB chief, and it was a brief session lasting just 23 minutes. Naqvi was present at the PCB headquarters, while other officials were in their offices, and franchise owners and representatives joined the meeting via video call.

PCB is likely to increase in franchise fees

Well, the existing franchise agreements will expire after the upcoming PSL 10, and before renewal, an independent company will evaluate fees and assess the value of two new teams for the 2026 season. The PCB is likely to increase in franchise fees.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is in the final stages of selecting an independent company to oversee this process. The evaluation is expected to take six weeks to complete before final decisions are made. Apart from the financial planning, preparations for the official anthem of PSL 10 are also in their final stages. The anthem is expected to be a major highlight of the upcoming PSL 2025.

Furthermore, they are also ensuring high-quality TV production for the tournament. The production company handling PSL broadcasts has been instructed to maintain international standards, treating the PSL as a global event rather than a domestic competition to provide fans with a great experience.

PSL 2025 clash with IPL 2025 in April-May

Notably, the Pakistan Super League 2025 kicks off on April 11 with Islamabad United facing Lahore Qalandars in the tournament opener at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This season, the tournament will have top international and local players, with a total of 116 players from 10 countries taking part, making it an exciting tournament.

However, the PSL 2025 will clash with the IPL 2025, starting on March 22 with the KKR facing RCB in the tournament opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
