Punjab Kings (PBKS) are currently facing a tough decision ahead of their high-stakes IPL 2025 clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and all eyes are on Glenn Maxwell. With PBKS’ IPL 2025 campaign hanging in a delicate balance, Aakash Chopra has raised serious questions over Glenn Maxwell’s spot in the playing XI.

Despite being shuffled around the batting order, Glenn Maxwell has failed to fire with the bat, averaging a meager 8.00, as he could manage only 48 runs in seven games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025. However, the Australian all-rounder scalped four wickets, but his overall impact has left fans and cricket experts disappointed.

Aakash Chopra predicts Punjab Kings could axe Glenn Maxwell for CSK clash

As Punjab Kings sit at the fifth spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 11 points from nine games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025, Chopra predicted a bold change in their playing XI. He feels Maxwell is all set to be replaced by Marcus Stoinis, who has a history of delivering big in Chennai, in the Punjab Kings XI.

With Shreyas Iyer yet to hit top gear and the uncapped opening duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya carrying all the load, PBKS are in desperate need of experience and consistency. The commentator was disappointed to see the low scores from the PBKS captain, Iyer.

I have no idea what they will do with Maxi: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said in a video posted on his YouTube channel, “Shreyas Iyer scored a few runs in the last match, but you expect a bigger knock from him. This team has the most exciting opening combination. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, the two uncapped Indians, are doing really well.”

Chopra further added, “I have no idea what they will do with Maxi, because they have tried everything, but the guy is not performing. If he is not performing, I don't know how they will persist with him, or will they play Marcus Stoinis because Marcus Stoinis played a mighty knock at this ground? So maybe that is what you want to do.”

Aakash Chopra says one more slip could end PBKS' IPL 2025 Playoff dreams

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra has pointed out that the Punjab Kings are in a tricky spot after a loss to RCB and a washed-out game against KKR. They now sit just outside the top four, and every match from here is crucial, and the commentator warned the PBKS that one more slip could cost them a playoff spot in this season as well.

However, the former Indian batter has picked the Punjab Kings as the favorite to beat the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, April 30, at the Chepauk. CSK is currently the bottom-ranked team in the IPL 2025 points table with just four points from nine games in the tournament.

Chopra signed off by saying, “They are a solid team. They are a six-hitting team, and they are a team that can go to Chennai and hit so many sixes that they can outbat the opposition. That is also possible. In bowling also, they will put together a strong performance.”
