Punjab Kings (PBKS) End Contract With Head Coach Anil Kumble - Reports
Punjab Kings decided not to renew former India spinner Anil Kumble’s contract, so his tenure as head coach of the team is now over.
A board made up of several owners, including Preity Zinta from Bollywood, industrialists Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Karan Paul, as well as Kings’ CEO Satish Menon, decided to let Kumble go. According to the information obtained, they are searching for a new coach who will be named soon.
In 2020, Kumble joined Kings. They finished in the bottom half of the IPL points table in each of the three seasons he oversaw the team.
Kumble was the fifth coach the Kings had hired in five seasons, following Mike Hesson (2019), Brad Hodge (2018), Virender Sehwag (2017), and Sanjay Bangar (2014–16).
Kumble was the only Indian head coach in the IPL in 2020. After his playing career, he worked with three IPL teams, first as a coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore and then for Mumbai Indians. Kings was his third team. This was prior to him taking the position of head coach for India for a year in 2016.
Being in charge of the Kings’ organisation, whether as a captain or a coach, hasn’t been simple, though. For instance, Kumble was in charge of 42 games. He tied two games, won 18, and lost 22.
A Call On Mayank Agarwal’s Captaincy Would Be Taken By The New Head Coach: Reports
According to Ravi Shastri, the Kings’ top review item before the 2023 season would be whether or not to keep Agarwal as captain. Shastri believed that the additional responsibility had a negative impact on Agarwal’s performance as a batter, which led to his exclusion from the Indian team for a T20I series against South Africa in June, immediately following the IPL.
The Punjab Kings have denied the media reports quoting unnamed franchise officials who speculated on Agarwal’s future as captain. But according to reports, as mentioned in Espncricinfo, the new head coach will make the final decision on the matter.
