South Africa cricketer Quinton de Kock will retire from the ODI format after the ICC World Cup 2023. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been named in the South Africa squad for the World Cup. However, Quinton de Kock will pull the curtains down on his ODI career after the ICC tournament.
Quinton de Kock is a senior player for South Africa. He has been part of South Africa for many years. Although he will bid goodbye to the national team after the ICC World Cup 2023, he will continue to be part of the T20I side.
Quinton de Kock To Retire From ODI Cricket After ICC World Cup 2023
In an official statement, Cricket South Africa announced Quinton de Kock’s ODI retirement. Enoch Nkwe, Director of Cricket South Africa, also mentioned that they look forward to seeing him represent the team in T20I cricket.
“Quinton has been a really good servant to South African cricket. He set the benchmark with his attacking batting style and was a key member of the squad for a number of years. He also wore the captain’s armband and that is an honour that very few people get to hold”.
“We understand his decision to step back from ODI cricket and we want to thank him for his service over the years. We wish him well for the future but still look forward to seeing him represent the Proteas in T20I cricket,” Enoch Nkwe, Director of Cricket South Africa said.
The 30-year-old only represents the national side in white-ball formats currently. The left-handed batsman retired from Test format in 2021. So far, the wicketkeeper-batsman has played 140 ODI games for South Africa.
In 140 matches, Quinton de Kock accounts for 5996 runs at an average of 44.86. He has also hit 17 centuries and 29 half-centuries in ODIs. He is also regarded as a hard-hitting opener.
Quinton de Kock is also part of many franchise T20 leagues. De Kock is part of leagues like the IPL, Big Bash League, and SA20 among others.
