Afghanistan National Cricket Team batting star Rahmat Shah created history on Day 2 of the ongoing one-off Test against the India National Cricket Team at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday (June 7).
Rahmat Shah reaches 1000 Test runs during IND vs AFG match
The right-handed batter became the first-ever Afghanistan player to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket. Rahmat reached the historic milestone with a boundary against India in the ongoing one-off Test.

The landmark moment came when Indian spinner Manav Suthar bowled a delivery outside off stump, and Rahmat attempted to drive through the covers. However, the ball took a thick inside edge, and luckily, the ball missed the leg stump and raced away towards the fine leg boundary.
With no fielder stationed at fine leg, the ball comfortably ran away to the boundary ropes, and Rahmat completed 1,000 Test runs and became the first Afghan cricketer to achieve the milestone.
Rahmat Shah death rumours go viral ahead of India tour
Last week, Rahmat Shah hit the headlines after false rumors about his death went viral on social media. The confusion began when Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat shared a condolence message in Pashto on social media. However, Instagram's automatic translation got the message wrong and made it appear as if the post was mourning Rahmat Shah himself.
As soon as people saw the translated version, many believed the Afghanistan batter had passed away. Social media was soon filled with tribute posts and emotional messages, but the truth came out. Karim’s condolence message was actually related to Rahmat Shah's mother and not the cricketer himself. The senior batter is alive and healthy and was preparing for the India tour.
Karim Janat’s Instagram post: “I heard the news of the death of the respected mother of Rahmat Shah, the talented player of the national cricket team. This great tragedy made me and all cricket fans very sad. On my own behalf and as a cricket player, I express my deepest sympathy and condolences to Rahmat Shah and his respected family. May Allah grant the deceased Paradise, fill her grave with light, and give her family patience to bear this great sorrow. Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

Rahmat Shah shines but India dominate Day 2
Meanwhile, India took full control of the one-off Test against Afghanistan on Day 2 after a strong bowling show in the final session. Young debutant Manav Suthar and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna shared five wickets between them to break the backbone of Afghanistan’s top order.
Suthar had a dream outing on his Test debut. He bowled with a lot of control and kept things tight right from the start. He picked up Abdul Malik and then removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz. On the very last ball of the day, he struck again and sent Afsar back to the pavilion.
His spell of 3 wickets for just 21 runs left everyone impressed. At the other end, Prasidh Krishna used his pace and bounce well and picked up two important wickets in the final session. He dismissed Sediqullah Atal and Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.
However, Rahmat Shah showed patience and fought hard, remaining unbeaten on 43 runs from 81 balls, but Afghanistan were still trailing India by a huge margin of 451 runs in the first innings at the stumps.
