Rajasthan Royals have assured that they are attempting to move on from their former skipper, Sanju Samson, and are opting for players within the franchise as their next captain for the upcoming IPL season.
The Rajasthan Royals have confirmed that Sanju Samson has requested his exit, and hence, the Royals have also decided to follow suit for the former skipper. As a result, they will need to appoint a new skipper to replace Samson.
With limited captaincy from Sanju Samson due to his injury setbacks, the Royals lost several close games and could not advance to the top 4 positions in the IPL points table. Moreover, they finished much lower in the points table.
Yashasvi Jaiswal might be the Rajasthan Royals' next skipper
The last time around, when Sanju Samson was not available during some of the games, Riyan Parag, the young all-rounder from the Royals setup, stepped up. Parag has been a special performer for the Royals in the season of 2024, where he was the team's highest scorer with the bat after being promoted in the batting order.
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the seasoned Indian left-handed batter, emerged as a major option who can be swapped in as their new skipper. Jaiswal is not a very experienced campaigner, yet he has shown a desire to grow as a leader in his career.
In recent claims, Rohit Juglan has reportedly informed that the Rajasthan Royals youngster Jaiswal might be seen in such a role for his side. "You should not be surprised if you see him leading the side," said Juglan on Yashasvi's captaincy chances.
Why might Yashasvi Jaiswal be cited over Riyan Parag for RR captaincy?
Though Riyan Parag led Rajasthan Royals on multiple occasions in the previous edition of the IPL, and has also been seen in a major captaincy role for his domestic side, Assam. He has led them constantly and led them almost single-handedly with both the bat and ball.
Performing with the bat, Parag has scored multiple runs across all formats and has been very effective with the ball. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player with immense international calibre and more experience than Parag himself.
Moreover, Jaiswal might be cited over Parag in the IPL, as he has been more consistent in the IPL, being RR's highest run-scorer last season as well. Parag failed to convince all with his performance, especially with the bat.
Sanju Samson's trade deal with the Delhi Capitals is stuck midway
Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson's trade deal between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals has once again been interrupted midway. Samson will be traded to the Capitals, and the Royals have insisted on an uncapped player alongside Tristan Stubbs.
The Protea is to be paired alongside Vipraj Nigam, Abhishek Porel, or Sameer Rizvi, as they have been cited as the three uncapped players in the Capitals side who have been in demand ahead of the mini-auction.
