The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has turned the heads with his choices in a small yet interesting rapid-fire segment amid the ongoing IPL 2024. Most of Rajat Patidar’s answers were expected, but his one choice left many stunned.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain had to pick the best captain the Indian Premier League has ever witnessed, and he did not choose the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni or his former captain Virat Kohli.
Rajat Patidar’s captain pick shocks fans
When asked about the best IPL captain on Cricbuzz, Rajat Patidar named Rohit Sharma, ignoring both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. However, both Rohit and Dhoni won five IPL titles as captain, but the RCB skipper went with the former Mumbai Indians skipper.

Rohit created one of the greatest captaincy stories in IPL history with his calm, strategic, and collaborative approach. He won all five of his titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) in just ten years. No other skipper had ever reached five trophies with the same team before him, though Dhoni later joined him in 2024.
Speaking about Dhoni, the former Indian captain holds the record for captaining the most matches and recording the most wins in IPL history. Under his leadership, CSK won five titles. Across the 14 seasons he led CSK, Dhoni took them to the playoffs 12 times and reached the final on 10 occasions.
With a win rate of 60.37% for CSK, he is the most successful captain in IPL history. On the other hand, Virat Kohli led RCB from 2013 to 2021 in the IPL and took them to the finals in the 2016 season. But he won the maiden trophy under Patidar’s captaincy in 2025.
Virat Kohli picked as best batter; Faf du Plessis named the best fielder
Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar picked Kohli as the best batter because of the consistency he has shown across IPL seasons. The former RCB captain remains the IPL's all-time leading run-scorer with over 8,600 runs.
Then, Rajat Patidar picked the South African star Faf du Plessis as the best fielder for his athletic skills. He is known for his stunning backward-running catches and those unbelievable one-handed grabs near the boundary.
Du Plessis is considered one of the best fielders the game has ever seen. He is among the top players with the most catches (85) in the IPL and probably the most trusted man at long-off and extra cover.
Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is Patidar’s favorite away ground. The atmosphere, the huge crowd, and the historic feel make it a special venue for many players, and the Madhya Pradesh batter is one of them.
Rajat Patidar is fan of Kohli's cover drive; picks best bowler and finisher
When the RCB captain was asked to pick the best cover drive player, he quickly picked Kohli. Just like many others, Patidar is also a fan of Kohli’s signature stroke, with the way he executes it perfectly with elegance and class.

He then picked the legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn as the best fast bowler. Steyn’s pace, aggression, and swing made him one of the scariest bowlers to face in his prime. Sunil Narine was Patidar’s choice for the best spinner. With his unreadable variations and control, Narine continues to dominate the T20 world.
For the best finisher, Patidar went with his former RCB teammate AB de Villiers because of his fearless hitting, ignoring Dhoni once again. Jasprit Bumrah won the title as a death-overs specialist, as expected, as Rajat hailed the Indian pacer’s yorkers and calmness in tough situations.
Among teammates, Patidar said that Kohli is the best-dressed player on the team. Kohli’s fashion sense has always been top-notch, so it was an easy pick for him. When it came to best music taste, Patidar shared that Phil Salt has great music taste, and Romario Shepherd also has great playlists. Finally, Patidar picked the RCB’s 2025 title glory as his best IPL moment.
