Ranji Trophy 2022: Sarfaraz Khan Creates Historic Record In First-Class Cricket After 153 vs Uttarakhand

Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan notched up another thundering first-class century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter-final match against Uttarakhand.
Sarfaraz scored 153 in 205 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and a six, on the second day of the quarterfinal game. The Mumbai player brought up his seventh century in first-class cricket.
Sarfaraz Khan averages more than 80 in first-class cricket
Sarfaraz was involved in a magnificent 277-run stand with debutant Suved Parkar, who scored 252 in the first innings. The 24-year-old continued from where he left ahead of the IPL 2022.
In the group stage, Sarfaraz’s scores read 275 (vs Saurashtra), 63, 48 (vs Goa), and 165 (vs Odisha).
Sarfaraz averages 140.80 this season and overall above 80, only late Australian batting great Don Bradman has better record in the elite list of players with the highest batting average with minimum 2000 runs in first-class cricket.
The Mumbai player finished as the leading run-scorer in the 2019-20 Ranji season with 928 runs in six games at an average of 154.66. He scored three centuries and two fifties with the best of 301 not out against Uttar Pradesh.
Despite wielding with the willow at a rapid pace, Sarfaraz has been eluded from a spot in the Indian Test side.
Mumbai is in driver’s seat in the QF match against Uttarakhand
Coming back to the quarter-final match, Mumbai declared the innings with a gigantic 647 for eight. Armaan Jaffer (60) and Shams Mulani (59) added a handful of contributions in building the huge score.
Uttarakhand were 39 for two wickets down at the end of the stumps on Day 2. Tushar Deshpande and Mohit Avasthi picked one wicket apiece. Kamal Singh (27*) and Kunal Chandela (8) were batting for Uttarakhand.
In the other fixtures, Bengal were in a commanding position against Jharkhand with scintillating tons from Sudip Gharami (186) and experienced campaigner Anustup Majumdar (117).
Abhishek Raman, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Manoj Tiwary, and Ishan Porel hit fifties as Bengal finished Day 2 at 575/5.
Uttar Pradesh bowled brilliantly to bounce back in the game after getting bowled out for 155 in the first innings. Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar’s 3/32 restricted Karnataka’s lead to 198 with two wickets to spare at the end of gameplay.
